Personality tests in various guises are commonly used in recruitment and career counseling industries. Such tests have also been considered as instruments for predicting the job performance of software professionals both individually and in teams. However, research suggests that other human-related factors such as motivation, general mental ability, expertise, and task complexity also affect the performance in general. This paper reports on a study of the impact of the Big Five personality traits on the performance of pair programmers together with the impact of expertise and task complexity. The study involved 196 software professionals in three countries forming 98 pairs. The analysis consisted of a confirmatory part and an exploratory part. The results show that: 1) Our data do not confirm a meta-analysis-based model of the impact of certain personality traits on performance and 2) personality traits, in general, have modest predictive value on pair programming performance compared with expertise, task complexity, and country. We conclude that more effort should be spent on investigating other performance-related predictors such as expertise, and task complexity, as well as other promising predictors, such as programming skill and learning. We also conclude that effort should be spent on elaborating on the effects of personality on various measures of collaboration, which, in turn, may be used to predict and influence performance. Insights into such malleable, rather than static, factors may then be used to improve pair programming performance.  相似文献

A Brownian motion model in the group of diffeomorphisms has been introduced as inducing a least committed prior on warps. This prior is source-destination symmetric, fulfills a natural semi-group property for warps, and with probability 1 creates invertible warps. Using this as a least committed prior, we formulate a Partial Differential Equation for obtaining the maximally likely warp given matching constraints derived from the images. We solve for the free boundary conditions, and the bias toward smaller areas in the finite domain setting. Furthermore, we demonstrate the technique on 2D images, and show that the obtained warps are also in practice source-destination symmetric and in an example on X-ray spine registration provides extrapolations from landmark point superior to those of spline solutions.  相似文献

We present results from the MicroActive project which develops an instrument for molecular diagnostics. The instrument is first tested for patient screening for a group of viruses causing cervical cancer. Two disposable polymer chips with reagents stored on-chip are developed and will be inserted into the instrument for each patient sample analysis. The first chip will perform nucleic acid extraction from patient epithelial cervical cells, while mRNA amplification and fluorescent detection takes place in the second chip. This paper reports results on the amplification chip. Purified sample is inserted into the chip and split into ten smaller droplets for simultaneous amplification and detection of ten viruses. The droplets move in parallel channels, each with two chamber extensions containing dried reagents. Experimental results on parallel droplet movement using one external pump combined with hydrophobic restrictions show that the parallel droplet positions can be controlled. There are four valves with increasing burst pressures between 800 and 4,500 Pa in each parallel channel, positioning the droplets in metering zones and reaction chambers. The re-hydration times for the dried reagents in micro chambers have been monitored. After sample insertion, uniform concentration of the reagents in the droplet was reached after respectively 60 s and 10 min. These times are acceptable for successful amplification. Finally we show positive amplification of HPV type 16 viruses in a micro chamber.  相似文献

Concentrations of trans-resveratrol, catechin and epicatechin were analyzed in musts and wines produced from seven red and four white grape cultivars from various wine growing regions of Turkey. Phenolics were quantified using an HPLC method optimized for the separation of wine phenolics. Wine samples contained higher phenolics levels than the corresponding musts. With the exception of Semillion, white wines and musts contained lower concentrations of phenolics than red wines and musts. However, the white cultivar Semillion had the highest concentrations of catechin and epicatechin among all wine and must samples. Semillion wine catechin and epicatechin were 13.7 and 11.8 mg/L, respectively. The highest level of trans-resveratrol among the white cultivars was found in Narince wine (1.93 mg/L). Within the red wine and must cultivars, Bo?azkere, Öküzgozü, and Cabernet contained the highest concentrations of flavan-3-ols and trans-resveratrol. Catechin was the major phenolic in all wines and most musts. Epicatechin was the major phenolic in 6 of the 11 must samples, but none of the wine samples. trans-Resveratrol was generally found in lowest concentrations in both wines and musts.  相似文献

The exchange of nitric oxide in nitrosylmyoglobin, the heme pigment of nitrite-cured meat, has been studied using nitrogen-15 labelling in aqueous solution under conditions (pH, concentration of ascorbate and nitrite) similar to those prevailing in meat during the curing process, and has been found to have a half-life of approximately 2 h at 40 degrees C. One nitric oxide molecule is coordinated to the iron(II) centre of a myoglobin molecule and, in weakly acidic aqueous solution under anaerobic conditions, the exchange rate of the bound nitric oxide is proportional to the concentration of nitrosylmyoglobin, nitrite and hydrogen ion. The rate of exchange has a moderate temperature dependence, corresponding to an activation barrier of delta H+- = 47 +/- 3 kJ.mol-1 at 25 degrees C and pH 5.9, a value dramatically lower than that found for the enthalpy of activation for the oxidation of nitrosylmyoglobin by molecular oxygen, delta H+- = 110 kJ.mol-1. The difference in temperature dependence between the exchange and the autoxidation is discussed in relation to the function of nitrosylmyoglobin as antioxidant in cured meat products.  相似文献

Antimicrobial enzymes are ubiquitous in nature, playing a significant role in the defense mechanisms of living organisms against infection by bacteria and fungi. Hydrolytic antimicrobial enzymes function by degrading key structural components of the cell walls of bacteria and/or fungi, whereas antimicrobial oxidoreductases exert their effects by the generation in situ of reactive molecules. A set of Critical Flow Venturis (CFVs) were manufactured by Flow Systems and calibrated by NIST in Gaithersburg, MD. Subsequently these flow standards along with pressure and temperature standards have been integrated into a gas flow meter calibration (GFC) system. Performance data and an uncertainty analysis is discussed here in this paper. Calibration data on these CFV standards will be used to inter-compare the NIST and CEESI primary facilities.  相似文献
